2. What did you want to be when you were younger?

An interesting questions to answer and I guess it depends on what you mean by "younger" (I am entering my 3rd decade of life so the "younger" stretch is growing considerably).

To cover all bases, lets work through the decades and my progression of career ideas!

The FIRST thing I can ever remember wanting to be was an actress (which anyone who knows me would find funny - I hate being center of attention, I experience social anxiety and I like to max my social interactions) . This obsession start when I was in primary school and continued well into my late teens, seeing me partake in Drama as one of my VCE electives in year 11. Unfortunately (or fortunately I guess... hind sight can be a wonderful thing) lets just say I had a particular parent who was less than impressed with this idea and never really nurtured my ambition to be in film and television so by the time I finished school that dream had well and truly died.

The next big dream was to be a vet nurse! I LOVE ANIMALS (quite possibly more than I love humans) and the idea of working in a veterinary clinic with animals all day seemed like the best idea ever! I even completed a Cert III in Animal Studies and had every intention to continue on to do my Cert IV in Vet Nursing... that was until I did placement and realised that while, yes I get to spend my day with animals - a lot of those animals coming through were sick or stray and that I had to witness the heartache of watching people lose a furry family member on a regular basis. It was just too much for my heart to handle and I found myself getting too emotionally attached to every creature that came into our clinic and when I couldn't adopt and save every one of them, I knew that the emotional tax this job would take on me was too much and so it was time to move on.

It took me a while before I developed plan C and for a few years I sort of floated in between hospitality and administrative work. In 2011 I went through a MASSIVE life changing year during which I decided to go to TAFE and study both a Cert IV in Fitness & Personal Training, and complete a Diploma of Remedial Massage. At the time my thought process was simply - I enjoy working out and often did so with mates so why not get paid at the same time. As for the massage I just figured it would compliment the PT service and I could possible find work in a spa or offer mobile massage & PT service. When I started this course i never expected that it would grow into such a career journey. In the start it truly was just doing something that I enjoyed and finding a way to get paid for it... now, 7 years later, after running my own business and working out of various gyms and spas, going back to University to complete a Bachelor of Sport Science (Human Movement) I can now confidently say that when I grow up (do we ever really grow up?) I want to be a Physiotherapist! The idea that I can help people live their life to the fullest - something I am so passionate about myself - has me excited, determined and putting in the hard yards to set myself up and build a successful and meaningful career.

T minus 2 years and counting until I complete my Masters of Physiotherapy and am fully qualified! (eeeeeppp!!)

Talk about a diverse journey... it may have taken me a while to get here but at least I can confidently say that I have tried on different styles and found the one that best suits me!
