In an ideal world

Because the first step to healthy living, is knowing who you are and who you want to be ♥

1. What does your ideal day look like?

An ideal day for me starts off by awakening not so late that I feel like I have wasted half the day, but not so early that it requires an alarm and results in me waking up tired. 8am is a good time.

I start the day by going for a half hour walk with Honey (my 5 year old German Shepherd) - walking first thing in the morning always helps to wake me, clear my mind and center myself. Also, if I then do NOTHING else all day, I have at least been active and started the day off right which makes my day feel successful.

After a walk I would have breakfast - my ideal brekky is smashed avo and feta on a slice of toast with a poached egg (yummm)... and a coffee (of course - because coffee is life). I would eat breakfast sitting outside under the veranda while reading the paper or listening to music.

After brekky I would shower and freshen up for the day (obviously) before heading out of the house- whether it be catching up with a friend, going on a random adventure with the fiance or just having some quiet me time; i like to try and get out of the house each day.

There would be lunch at some stage (most like a pot and parmi at the pub), before heading back home in the afternoon to relax (read a book, play the PlayStation or get artistic).

I would cook a simple and healthy dinner - some sort of meat with salad - and then I would spend the night snuggled up with le fiance (lets call him E.B) on the couch watching Netflix until we fall asleep.

The ideal day ♥

... Having said that, what an average day for me actually looks like is as follows:

From Monday - Friday my alarm goes off at 5:30am - I wake up tired and sluggishly get ready for work (there is rarely ever a walk!!)

I generally work from 8am - 3pm, and while I live only 30min from work (off peak time), in peak hour traffic my travel to and from work escalates to 2 hours each way (F#@% the Monash Fwy and F#@% metro public transport).

Breakfast is generally had once I am at work (2 weetbix and a coffee - how boring). Lunch, also at work, is generally a BirdsEye Steamfresh bag of Veggies with a tin of tuna.

By the time I get home around 5pm, I try to do a bit of cleaning around the house, but more often then not (especially towards the end of the week) I end up just crashing on the couch.

I cook dinner - usually just some form of meat and veg... or pasta... I LOVE PASTA!

I aim to get to bed by 10pm so I can at least get 7.5 hours sleep, although that is rarely the case - Am I the only one who can sit on the couch and start dozing off, so I head to bed and then all of a sudden my mind is wide awake and pondering over all the great questions of the world (Do penguins have knees? And I wonder if I have ever drank milk from the same cow twice?)

The only difference between a weekday and the weekend is that the alarm isn't set. However by the time the weekend rolls around I am so exhausted I tend to oversleep and waste half my day in bed (11am is apparently the appropriate time to wake up). I then spend half a day catching up on the cleaning I didn't do during the week, feeling guilty I take the dog for a walk because it has been a week since her last one and I do all my life chores that need to be completed to set up my week to come (grocery shop, food prep, various appointments etc).

If I am lucky, at some stage over the weekend I am social and spend some time catching up with friends or family. If I am unlucky I am juggling 4 social events in and around everything else (never a dull moment in our household) and trying to do it all look fresh faced and happy. Sunday night comes, I crash again (Although now pondering if a slug is a homeless or naked snail?) and wait for the alarm to signal the rinse and repeat of another week.

Just proof reading that paragraph and reflecting on my lifestyle makes me feel exhausted. Definitely FAR from my ideal day!
